Meta AI published a blogpost titled “Using AI to bring children’s drawings to life”.
The researchers used a four-step process to animate those humanlike creatures children are known to draw. They first detect humanlike figures through object detection, then isolate the figure from the scene using character masking, detect the pose (the position of each “body” part) via a rigging method and finally animate the 2D figure using 3D motion capture.
While there are existing tools designed to handle realistic images of humans, children’s drawings add a level of unpredictability that makes identifying what’s being portrayed much more complex.
As I didn’t have any of my childhood drawings handy, I used rick. It seems he broke both of his legs though.
