A mileage log template in CSV
A mileage log is a table with one row per trip. This CSV has the columns I use, and the file opens in any spreadsheet and imports into Trajan with every column recognised.
The columns
- date, the day of the trip, as 2026-01-05.
- start_time, the hour it started.
- from and to, where it started and where it ended.
- purpose, why you drove.
- category, Business or Personal.
- distance_mi, the distance in miles. Use distance_km for kilometres.
For the United Kingdom, gov.uk asks for the reason of every journey and the postcodes of its start and end, so put a postcode in from and to if you claim there.
Why not keep it in a spreadsheet forever
A spreadsheet needs you to remember each trip and to type each distance. Trajan, the iPhone app I built, measures the trip while it records, sorts it with one tap and prices it at the rate of its day. Its Pro import reads a CSV like this one, so a log you already kept moves in without retyping.
