Trajan, support

Trajan is a mileage log for business trips. You start a trip, it measures the distance, you sort it as business or personal, and the year's report comes out as a PDF or CSV with the rate and its date. No account, and everything stays on the iPhone.

Getting help

Write to [email protected]. I built the app and I read every message myself. Telling me the country you chose in Settings, the vehicle and the trip involved makes a question about an amount answerable on the first reply.

Starting a trip

In the app. The first screen has a Start trip button. Trajan reads your position only while a trip is recording, and asks for location "While Using the App". Choose that and the trip records with the screen locked.

Without opening the app. Add the Trip control to Control Center, to the Lock Screen or to the Action button, or use the two shortcuts in the Shortcuts app, "Start trip" and "Stop trip". While a trip records, the Lock Screen shows its distance and a button to end it.

With the car. Settings has a "Start with CarPlay" guide in five steps. You create an automation in Shortcuts that runs "Start trip" when the iPhone connects to CarPlay or to a Bluetooth device, and another that runs "Stop trip" when it disconnects. iOS does not let an app create it for you, so the guide shows each step.

No signal. The trip keeps its clock and shows "No signal" until a position comes back. If it says "Waiting for position", open the app and the recording picks up. A trip you forgot to start can be added afterwards with the plus button, by addresses or by odometer readings.

Just looking. Settings, "Try a sample trip", replays an 8 km drive that comes with the app. It uses neither your position nor your trip list, and nothing is saved.

How amounts are worked out

A trip takes the rate in force on the day it started, and the Rates screen in Settings shows each rate with its dates and the day it was last read from the official source. An amount is an estimate at those rates, and Trajan is not tax advice.

United States. A flat rate per mile that depends on the date and on the category, business, medical or charity. The year is the calendar year.

United Kingdom. Rates run by tax year, 6 April to 5 April, and cars and vans have a higher rate on the first 10,000 miles of the year and a lower one after that. A trip that crosses 10,000 miles is split in two.

France. The barème kilométrique is an annual scale per vehicle, so it needs the vehicle's power in CV, and the amount is the annual total, not a line per trip. Trajan shows how each trip changes that total. The 2026 scale is the 2025 one and is marked provisional until the new one is published.

Other countries. Trajan gives distances and no amounts.

Backup, import and Pro

Backup. Settings, "Backup file", makes one file with all your trips, which you keep in Files or iCloud Drive or send to yourself. "Restore from a file" puts it back on a new iPhone, trips already there are skipped, and both are free. Deleting the app deletes your trips, since nothing is on a server, so make a backup before you change phone or delete it.

Import. Settings, "Import CSV", reads a log exported from another app or a spreadsheet saved as CSV, and you check the column matching and the trip count before anything is added.

Trajan Pro adds PDF and CSV reports, trips added to past months and CSV import, as a yearly subscription or a one-time Lifetime purchase. Recording, sorting, editing, reading every month and the backup stay free. "Restore purchases" is at the bottom of the Pro screen, which you reach from Settings, Plan, and a subscription is managed in your Apple Account settings.

The app collects nothing, the details are on the privacy page. The terms of use are on their own page.
